Dryer Will Not Start
- Door not closed properly: Close the dryer door firmly until it latches. Check that clothing is not caught in the door opening.
- Control Lock enabled: Disable Control Lock using the button combination shown on the appliance control panel or in the model-specific manual.
- Delay Start selected: Check whether a delayed start feature has been programmed before assuming the dryer has failed.
- No electrical power: Check the outlet, power cord, circuit breaker, and household electrical supply.
- Gas dryer supply issue: Confirm the gas shutoff valve is open and the gas supply is available.
Dryer Runs but Does Not Heat
- Electric dryer breaker issue: Most electric dryers need a 240V supply. Both sides of the double-pole circuit breaker must be switched on.
- Gas supply problem: Confirm the gas valve is open and verify that other gas appliances are receiving fuel normally.
- Airflow restricted: A blocked exhaust vent can trigger overheating protection and reduce heating performance.
- Incorrect cycle selected: Air Fluff, cool-down, wrinkle care, and low-temperature cycles may not feel as hot as regular drying programs.
- Heating component fault: A thermal fuse, thermostat, igniter, gas valve coil, heating element, or control board may require qualified service.
Drying Takes Too Long
- Lint filter blocked: Clean the lint filter before every cycle and remove lint from the filter housing area.
- Vent duct restricted: Check the exhaust hose and outside vent flap for crushing, lint buildup, bird nests, snow, or other obstructions.
- Load too large: Reduce load size and separate heavy towels, bedding, jeans, and lightweight clothing.
- Moisture sensor dirty: Wipe the metal moisture sensor strips inside the drum with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
- Room temperature too low: Dryers installed in cold garages or laundry rooms may take longer to complete sensor drying cycles.
Airflow, Venting & Lint Problems
- Weak airflow from outside vent: Inspect the complete vent path from the dryer outlet to the exterior vent hood.
- Flexible duct crushed: Straighten or replace crushed, overly long, or poorly routed dryer ducting.
- Outside vent flap not opening: Remove lint, debris, ice, nests, or damaged vent components blocking airflow.
- Lint buildup around dryer: Clean the lint filter, vent connection, rear cabinet area, and household exhaust system regularly.
- Frequent overheating: Stop using the dryer until the venting system is cleaned and normal airflow is restored.
Common GE Dryer Error Code Symptoms
- Door error: Close the door firmly and inspect the latch, strike, and door switch area for lint or clothing obstruction.
- Temperature or thermistor error: Allow the dryer to cool, clean lint buildup, and inspect airflow before restarting.
- Power supply issue: Check the outlet voltage, power cord connection, breaker, and terminal block wiring.
- Motor or drum error: Check for overloaded laundry, jammed drum movement, loose objects, or belt-related problems.
- Control or communication error: Disconnect power for several minutes and consult the model-specific manual if the alert returns.
Steam, Sanitize & SmartHQ™ Features
- Steam cycle not working: Confirm the water supply hose is connected and that a compatible steam cycle is selected.
- Wrinkles remain after drying: Avoid overloading and remove clothes promptly when the cycle ends.
- SmartHQ™ not connecting: Confirm that the home network uses a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band and follow the model-specific setup procedure.
- Remote control unavailable: Make sure the dryer is powered on, connected to Wi-Fi, and remote enable has been activated where required.
Noise, Vibration & Maintenance Tips
- Thumping sound: Bulky laundry can create temporary thumping. Pause the cycle and redistribute the load if needed.
- Rattling: Check pockets for coins, keys, zippers, buttons, or other loose objects.
- Vibration: Level all dryer feet and make sure the appliance is installed on a firm, even floor.
- Burning or musty odor: Clean the lint filter and vent system. Stop use immediately if you smell electrical burning.
- Drum light not working: Check door closure, control settings, bulb condition where applicable, and model-specific service instructions.
Safety note: Always disconnect electrical power before cleaning internal areas, checking the vent, replacing parts, or servicing the appliance. For gas dryers, also close the gas supply valve before service. Do not operate the dryer with a damaged power cord, blocked vent, or defective door switch.
